Fixed-time Coordinated Control for Grid-Forming and Grid-Following Inverters in Microgrids

In an islanded AC microgrid, both grid-forming (GFM) and grid-following (GFL) inverters play essential roles in frequency regulation and active power sharing through their grid support capabilities. This study illustrates the primary control mechanisms of both inverter types and develops their coordinated control. We propose a fixed-time distributed control scheme that effectively coordinates GFL and GFM inverters under various disturbances. The study highlights the Fast convergence characteristic of the proposed control scheme in a modified IEEE-33 bus system.
