Kinetics and Degree of Swelling of Hemostatic Hydrogels with a Gelatin-Alginate System Modified with Humic Acids

In this work, hemostatic hydrogels with a gelatin-alginate system modified to prevent wound infection by humic acids in aqueous solutions containing sodium and calcium ions were developed. It has been shown that by changing the type and concentration of humic acids containing sodium or calcium ions in a gelatin-alginate hydrogel, it is possible to regulate the equilibrium degree of swelling in the range of 2.1-13.6% and the swelling time of the gel in the range of 16–30 s at a rate absorption of liquid by gel located on the human body in the range of 0.87 - 1.15 ml/(s cm²), The high rate of water absorption and ability to swell at physiological temperature have been experimentally confirmed, simulating the ability of gel dressings to quickly absorb blood and wound exudate to ensure hemostasis.
