Control Strategy for Islanded DC Microgrid Integrated with Renewable Energy Resources and Electric Vehicle

This paper introduces a control strategy for an islanded DC microgrid that integrates PV, wind, and fuel cell sources with an energy storage system (ESS) that includes a battery storage system and an electric vehicle (EV). Due to the intermittent nature of solar and wind energy, the proposed method reduces voltage fluctuations in the DC bus. It reduces overall current stress on the system by utilizing EV to share the load current during peak demand conditions. Renewable energy sources like solar and wind deliver clean energy while combining them with fuel cells to ensure a more stable and consistent power supply. Additionally, ESS enhances flexibility and offers increased storage capacity. This research work uses the droop control method to improve microgrid reliability by managing power supply and demand fluctuations, ensuring a stable voltage level of the DC microgrid and efficient power distribution. The paper proposes utilizing a current-loop control method for an EV to discharge energy during periods of peak demand and to recharge when excess power is generated. The system's performance, evaluated using MATLAB-Simulink, demonstrates the effectiveness of the approach under conditions of rapid load fluctuations, renewable energy variability, and load shedding.
