Enhanced Working of Grid-linked PV with Incremental Conductance MPPT and Integrated Battery Storage

This paper investigates the enhanced performance of grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) systems using the Incremental Conductance (INC) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm coupled with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The INC MPPT algorithm is implemented to optimize the extraction of maximum power from the PV array under varying environmental conditions. By accurately tracking the maximum power point, the system ensures efficient energy conversion and minimizes power losses. The integration of a Battery Energy Storage System further enhances the system's performance by saving excess available power through stages of high solar irradiance and providing power during low irradiance or peak demand periods. This hybrid approach not only stabilizes the power output but also enhances the reliability and flexibility of the grid-connected PV scheme. The study includes a comprehensive simulation analysis accomplished in MATLAB/Simulink, demonstrating the effectiveness of the INC MPPT algorithm in achieving rapid and accurate tracking under dynamic conditions. The results indicate significant improvements in energy yield and overall system efficiency compared to conventional MPPT methods. Additionally, the incorporation of BESS provides a robust solution for energy management, reducing dependency on the grid and enabling better handling of load variations. This research highlights the potential of combining advanced MPPT techniques with energy storage systems to create more resilient and efficient grid-connected solar PV systems, contributing to sustainable and reliable renewable energy solutions.
