Antenna and Metamaterial in Wireless Communication Systems

This paper focuses on the research outcome from metamaterial or metasurface with antenna for wireless communication applications. The metamaterial such as Electromagnetic band Gap (EBG) and Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) is incorporated with antenna to enhance the performance in wireless communication systems. This application can be boosted in terms of band pass, band stop, radiation pattern, beam forming network, gain and pattern reconfigurability. In this paper two applications in EBG and two applications in AMC for wireless application have been described. It can be seen that the EBG structure can also reconfigure the frequency and pattern whereas the AMC structure can enhance the transmission as well as improve the distance for RFID applications.
