Understanding National Culture in Smart Technology Acceptance – A Case of Indonesia and Australia

The attitude of employees is a crucial factor in the successful implementation of technological innovations in hotels. The influence of cultural values on an individual's conduct is highly significant. Previous studies have investigated the impact of national cultural values on technology acceptance, but primarily within the limits of a particular country. The purpose of current study is to assess the degree of technology acceptance in Indonesia and Australia through a comparative analysis of their national cultures, focusing on the contrasting cultural values of collectivism and individualism. This study used a quantitative methodology and a questionnaire survey to collect data. The study explicitly targets hotel employees, with 110 participants from Jakarta and 98 participants from Melbourne. In addition, this study employed SmartPLS 3.0 software and Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) to assess the gap in smart technology acceptability between both countries. The results indicated a direct relationship between the two nations with perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Furthermore, the present study emphasized the significance of employing smart technology aligns with the cultural norms of employees, especially in nations that embrace collective values. As the technology growth, these observations provide a foundation for adapting implementation strategies considering technological features and cultural differences.
