Review on the atomization characteristics of Liquid sheet in the presence of acoustic fields

Combustion instability may occur in liquid rocket engines, which may induce the pressure oscillations in the combustor. The pressure oscillation will cause certain damage to the structure of the combustion chamber. However, the pressure oscillation often exist as a form of acoustic oscillation. These oscillation may act on the process of atomization, and feed back to the process of combustion. In order to acquire a better understanding of atomization characteristics of liquid sheet in the presence of acoustic fields, recent advances of atomization characteristics of planar liquid sheet,conical liquid sheet, and a single liquid jet are reviewed in the presence of acoustic fields. By the review it is concluded that scholars’ research on atomization characteristics in the presence of acoustic fields mainly by two ways. One way is to use acoustic drivers to produce the acoustic field, wheih induces the pressure oscillation in the flow field around. the spray to produce pressure oscillation to study the breaking process of the jet or liquid sheet in the presence of acoustic fields. Another way is to consider that combustion chamber pressure oscillation is equivalent to upstream pressure disturbance. As for the experiments, a standing wave sound field experimental system that can provide high frequency and high amplitude pressure oscillation is demande. As for the simulation, high-fidelity numerical simulation of atomization should be carried out. Also the generation, development, and propagation of pressure wave should be studied. The interaction between acoustic fields and atomization field should be investigated based on the two points mentioned above.
