New Regulatory Activities for Sharing in the 3.1–3.45 GHz and 7.125–8.4 GHz Frequency Bands

There have been a number of recent developments within regulatory agencies as they evaluate spectrum allocation options for commercial uses in new bands such as 3.1–3.45 GHz and 7.125–8.4 GHz. The former is of specific interest to the U.S. agencies (Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)) while the latter is of world-wide interest since it is one of the bands identified in the 2023 World Radio Conference (WRC-23) [1], [2]. Both bands are currently allocated to a variety of incumbents, mostly federal, and hence any future allocations for commercial use will require careful evaluation of various options, including spectrum sharing.
