Data Detection from Images on Curved Surfaces in Data Embedding to Printed Images using Auxiliary Lines

As an alternative to two-dimensional (2D) codes, there is a growing interest in techniques that embed information in images and detect that information from their printed counterparts. These techniques generally apply to images affixed on a flat surface. One such technique has been proposed to detect information from images on curved surfaces using prior known information, such as the radius of a cylindrical surface. However, obtaining this type of information may be difficult. In this paper, we propose the use of auxiliary lines instead of relying on prior information, which is sometimes difficult to obtain. In our proposed method, auxiliary lines are added in advance around the image in which data are embedded, and information is detected by correcting the image using these auxiliary lines at the time of capturing. This method can mitigate the limitations of the image-capturing conditions of the conventional method.
