Adaptive Pulse Selection Method Based on Otsu for Frequency Agile Radar with Sparse Recovery

Frequency agile radar (FAR) can provide improved performance compared to the conventional pulse-Doppler radar due to the random-frequency pulses with sparsity in range-velocity domain. However, the sparse recovery performance of the target heavily depends on the accuracy of pulse selection in dense electric jamming environment. In order to deal with this problem, adaptive pulse selection method based on Otsu with sparse recovery is proposed for FAR. In the proposed method, the radar echo corrupted by jamming is firstly binarized by Otsu method. And then the pulses unaffected by jamming can be selected based on the number of range cells over the binary threshold. Afterwards the range and velocity parameter can be sparse recovery by the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) method. Simulated FAR data with jamming shows the proposed method can obtain accurate target estimation under the jamming environment.
