Analysis of SDLC Models with Web Engineering Principles

The dynamism of web technologies and the emergence of advanced and intricate web applications strongly call for the definition of the software development life cycle paradigms from the perspective of web engineering discipline. Hybrid models like Waterfall, V-Model and Iterative Development have been in use for formal software development while recent development methodologies are Agile. Yet, these models need to be assessed and adapted for the web engineering contexts to fit problems that are specific to web application development, for example, rapid development cycles, high user interaction, the need for scalability and constantly shifting security requirements. This paper, introduces five fundamental SDLC models of web engineering, namely the Waterfall model, V-Model, Spiral model, Agile, and DevOps. It also discusses how developments on basic web engineering components such as client-server model, crossplatform Web, rapid prototyping, and continuous deployment map to various phases of the Web SDLC namely requirement analysis, design, construction, testing, and maintenance. Upon reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of each model as applied to web development, this paper introduces a new approach that combines the best elements of Agility and conventional models into a single framework competent for modern web applications. Hence, the paper endeavors to understand how Web Engineering can improve on traditional SDLC models with the ultimate vision of presenting an optimal paradigm for web application development.Another key theme of this paper is the need to adapt SDLC models to meet the need of Web applications that require integration, flexibility, and usability. Web applications meet complex and dynamic requirements; therefore, web engineering principles have to be created as scalable, secure, and dynamically adaptive to multi-plenary devices and platforms, which mandate iterative and adaptive life cycles. Having evaluated how SDLC models address these requirements, the paper establishes that traditional models are in some ways deficient and proposes enhancements that helpful for web-based projects. It also discuss how current trends such as DevOps and Agile hybrids can be used to deal with issues of speedy deployment and real time feedback to enhance web application reliability, expandability and usability in current complex environment. Web engineering principles’ incorporation into the SDLC methodologies gives the developers a guideline to use in managing the complicated web application developments’ issues without compromising on quality or performance issues.
