Radiation Characteristics of 2.4GHz-Band Wi-Fi LCX Antenna with Varying Cable Rotation Angle and Distance from Metal Wall

We have focused on LCX (leaky coaxial cable) as an antenna for wireless IoT in factories. When LCX antenna is installed close to a metal wall of the factory building, the radiation characteristics will be varied by changing the distance from the wall. The rotation angle of the slot on the LCX surface will also affect the radiation characteristics. This paper addresses these radiation characteristic changes through electro-magnetic (EM) simulations and measurements. Both results show steep antenna gain drop at certain distances and slot rotation angles, but the depth of antenna gain becomes shallower as the distance increases. In order to avoid the deep gain drop, we suggest preferable distance between the LCX antenna and the metal wall for 2.4GHz-band Wi-Fi communication.
