A Reconfigurable Metasurface with Independent Manipulation of Amplitude and Phase

A novel design of reconfigurable metasurface with independent manipulation of amplitude and phase is proposed in this article. Such a metasurface is composed of a periodic array with a single-layer structure integrated with varactors and PIN diodes, featuring a simple structure that is easy to fabricate. In contrast to the majority of reported metasurfaces with dynamic amplitude and phase control, the proposed metasurface is capable to independently manipulate reflected amplitude and phase over the frequency band ranging from 4.6 to 4.7 GHz. The phase manipulation range is from 0°-180°, while amplitude manipulation range is from 0.3 to 0.8.
