Simulation-Based Assessment of Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields Exposure of Mantis in Terms of Specific Absorption Rate

This paper investigates the exposure of a mantis (Mantis religiosa) to radio-frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs) ranging from 2.5 GHz to 100 GHz. The paper focuses on estimating the specific absorption rate (SAR) in insect tissues (including the brain) using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The mantis is modeled as a heterogeneous dielectric object with three tissues. We have determined the whole-body averaged, tissue averaged, and 1 milligram SAR values in insects for all considered frequencies for 10 different incident plane waves (far-field exposure). The results showed that insect RF -EMF energy absorption depends highly on frequency, polarization, and insect tissue.
