Dual-Band Uniplanar Crossover for LEO SATCOM Systems

A uniplanar dual-band crossover composed of a slotted circular patch and four resonators based on meandered open circuit stubs is presented. By adjusting the length of the meandered open circuit stubs, transmission zeros can be placed in the transmitted signal, forming the required amplitude responses. To validate the design concept, a dual-band crossover is designed and simulated to operate from 19.5 GHz to 21.5 GHz and from 29 GHz to 30.5 GHz. Over the dual operating bands, simulation results show that the crossover achieves more than 15 dB return loss with less than 1.2 dB insertion loss. The isolation of the designed crossover is more than 14 dB across the operating bandwidths. In addition, the group delay of the proposed crossover only varies by 0.02 ns within the operating frequency bands. These performances show that the proposed crossover can be potentially used in the feeding network in emerging low earth orbit satellite communications systems.
