Broadband Phase-Controlled Power Splitter Using Metamaterial Transmission Line

In this paper, a new meta material-inspired design topology to the implementation of a broadband phase-controlled power splitter is proposed. The dual-phase power splitter consists of a T-junction, two baluns, and two different composite right/left-handed (CRLH) metamaterials. Two sets of CRLH unit cell structure are combined to provide near constant phase shift over more than an octave bandwidth. The amplitude imbalance is smaller than 0.9 dB and the phase imbalance is less than 5° from 1 GHz to 3.2 GHz. Good agreement between simulation and measurement is achieved.
