FPGA Implementation Scheme of Channel Estimation Method for Leakage Suppression

In an OFDM system utilizing virtual subcarriers, the LS-DFT method for channel estimation can introduce leakage effects during the time-frequency transform processing of the signal. To address this issue, this paper proposes an FPGA implementation scheme for a leakage-suppressed LS-DFT channel estimation method based on the optimal linear estimator with leakage suppression. MATLAB simulations are conducted on the OFDM system link using this proposed channel estimation technique. The results demonstrate that, under the conditions of a Rayleigh multipath channel and 16-QAM modulation, the leakage suppression method significantly enhances the signal-to-noise ratio compared to the conventional method, achieving a 0.8 dB improvement at a bit error rate of 10−4. Additionally, an indoor wireless communication transmission platform is constructed using FPGA boards, RF transceivers, and antennas to validate the implementation scheme, successfully achieving error-free transmission in the link. A comparison of hardware testing results with MATLAB simulations reveals a relative error of approximately 5%. In practical OFDM systems, the channel estimation FPGA implementation scheme presented in this paper effectively improves the system's demodulation threshold and holds substantial practical value.
