Explicit Two-Derivative Runge-Kutta Methods in the Coarse Operator of Parareal Algorithm for Power System Simulation

The objective of this work is to speed up dynamic simulation of large interconnected power system. Parareal algorithm achieves faster dynamic simulation by, decomposing the time domain into coarse sub-intervals and solving them independently and in parallel for fine sub-intervals. In contrast with fine sub-intervals, coarse sub-intervals has a large step time (10-30 times). Thus, an explicit Two Derivative Runge Kutta (TDRK) method is investigated for the coarse operation and compared with conventional methods. Efficacy of the proposed method is shown on different system dynamics.
