Research on Water Cooling Plate Simulation System Based on Finite Element

The power devices of power electronic converters generate a lot of heat during operation, and effective heat dissipation and cooling are crucial for their reliable operation. As a typical heat dissipation module, the water-cooling plate has good heat dissipation performance, but its geometric shape and physical field are complex. The number and structure of the plates, the number and arrangement of cooling pipes, the flow velocity and material of the coolant, and the ambient temperature will affect the heat dissipation capacity. Manually modifying model parameters and repeating simulation steps are not only require a lot of work but also prone to errors. The finite element method (FEM) is used to design the heat dissipation module for converter simulation, which both has high engineering value for the design and operation of the converter. Based on the finite element method, this paper designs a water-cooling plate simulation system. The system is jointly developed using COMSOL and MATLAB software, and the design of modules including software environment configuration, software writing and thermal simulation is completed. After setting the parameters, the system can automatically establish a geometric model, and set material parameters and physical fields, then divide the grid and solve the model. Finally, data visualization is completed to achieve rapid construction and analysis of water-cooling plate simulation. The operation results prove the effectiveness of the simulation system. The system designed in this paper can improve the simulation efficiency of water cooling plate design and can be extended to the design and simulation of other cooling modules, which has highly great promotion value.
