Engaging Students in STEM: A Practical Approach with a Custom GUI Application for XY Plotter

This paper examines the complex topic of STEM education, with a specific emphasis on mechatronics and its dissemination among the general public. An analysis of the current state of STEM education was conducted, identifying key challenges that contribute to the perception of STEM and mechatronics as difficult and less appealing subjects for students. Furthermore, a method to motivate students in these disciplines was proposed, involving the introduction of a simplified XY plotter, based on an existing design but enhanced with custom-developed software components. It is argued that the most effective approach to fostering student interest in STEM and mechatronics is through the presentation of accessible, practical examples that allow for further development and exploration
