Datacenter infrastructure health visualization for grid operation and development of an index to signify the health status of infrastructure using open-source tools

Information Technology applications and software nowadays work as the backbone of modern-day Grid Operation. The datacenter infrastructure at the grid control center hosts all these critical interlinked applications, software, and automation. Thus, monitoring of the underlined infrastructure where the critical application services are hosted becomes essential. Real-time monitoring of critical servers and the network of datacenter is done using multiple tools, such as network management system (NMS), Virtual platform management tools, security information and event management (SIEM) etc. However, there is a need of a comprehensive effective dashboards for monitoring various parameters, which is sometimes not possible with off-the-shelf monitoring tools. Recognizing the criticality of maintaining the operational availability of critical services in grid control center environments, this paper delves into development of an index to signify the overall health status of hardware infrastructure to provide system administrators with a comprehensive monitoring of system health and facilitate quick fault detection and informed decision-making. Various approaches, including statistical methods, machine learning techniques, and other expert systems, have been explored for developing a health status index (HSI) in this paper. The paper elaborates on the open-source tool-based dashboards developed for effective monitoring of hardware infrastructure and methodologies adopted for the development of health status index with a nuanced understanding of the complexities inherent in assessing hardware health within grid control data centers.
