Machine-learning-enhanced military maintenance management systems

Maintenance management systems are essential for ensuring military equipment’s efficient and reliable operation. Adopting advanced technologies, such as machine learning, significantly improves the effectiveness of these systems. These technologies are key in determining the best strategies for military assets’ maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO). Developing well-engineered systems to effectively address challenges, such as detecting patterns, anomalies, and faults with high accuracy and reliability, requires sophisticated software solutions. Most of all, neural networks with predictive capabilities are currently being used to address these challenges. This article overviews maintenance management systems, discussing their main components, functions, and benefits. It examines mainly military systems, including predictive maintenance techniques that use artificial intelligence (AI). The paper reviews each approach, the fundamental concepts, the types of problems these systems are designed to solve, and their overall capabilities.
