Video Compression System for Mobile Application

While traditional software-based solutions frequently result in excessive power consumption and limited battery life, video compression is essential for optimizing bandwidth and improving user experiences in mobile applications. To overcome these limitations, the low-power FPGA-based video compression system proposed in the study makes use of the H.265/HEVC method. The FPGA-based system uses hardware-level parallelism to provide significant energy savings and higher performance, in contrast to current approaches that rely on general-purpose CPUs and GPUs, which are inefficient for parallel processing workloads. With a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of 45.2 dB and a 50:1 compression ratio, the implementation shows a 60% reduction in power consumption over software-based H.264/AVC. Furthermore, processing at 60 frames per second with a 16-millisecond latency per frame, the FPGA-based system surpasses existing methods in terms of speed and efficiency. Providing enhanced energy efficiency and real-time processing capabilities, the implementation marks a significant breakthrough in video compression technology for mobile applications.
