An Efficient Adaptive Slicing Method for Additive Manufacturing

The general 3D printing adaptive Slicing method based on the normal vectors of the triangular faces of the STL model suffers from the problems of long printing time and low efficiency of model molding, in this regard, we propose an adaptive Slicing method based on the Mean value of the set of normal vector angles of the triangular facets of the STL model (The Mean Value of Angles Method, MVAM), which is aimed at solving the above problems. MVAM takes the Mean value of the set of normal vector angles of the triangular facets of the STL model as the basis for calculating the thickness of the Slicing layers. After the algorithm was designed, Matlab software was used to process the data to obtain the Slicing data of the model. Finally, the MVAM algorithm is compared with the minimum value Slicing algorithm, and the actual printing accuracy and efficiency of the two algorithms are compared through fused deposition molding printing experiments. Fused deposition molding experiments show that the MVAM algorithm meets the requirements of printing accuracy, the printing efficiency increased by $\mathbf{3 6 \%}$, and the algorithm is easy to implement, with good practical application.
