A design and control method for Pole Changing Induction Machine for Traction Application

This paper presents a design method of a Pole Changing Induction Machine (PCIM) with double 3 phase inverter. The winding method and a design of the machine geometry to maximize the advantage of the pole changing IM are shown. Also, a driving method of PCIM which can reduce the torque shock under the pole changing is described. Some simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of PCIM and torque shock reduction under the high torque conditions.
