Physical Layout Design Automation for High-Power Density DC-DC Converter

This study presents a novel methodology to improve the design automation of bidirectional DC-DC converter, focusing on size, weight, efficiency, and cost (SWaP-C) optimization while aiming for a compact design. Utilizing the PowerSynth tool, it optimizes the layout and employs algorithms for component selection to enhance efficiency. The research examines trade-offs in reducing inductance and controlling junction temperatures across different layouts to identify optimal configurations. It also considers compactness and performance in the modular converter's design, applying a Monte Carlo method for exploring design alternatives. PowerSynth outputs including data on temperature and inductance, are used as inputs for thermal analysis in Para Power, which assesses the risk associated with each design layout. The objective is to integrate mathematical analysis with PowerSynth 2's layout optimization features to enhance the physical design process of a modular bidirectional DC-DC converter.
