Axial-Assist Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine with Halbach Array Magnetic Arrangement

Capitalizing on the advantages of the Halbach array this paper presents a novel structure for axial-assist Permanent Magnets (PM) machines with Halbach array magnetic arrangement. The proposed axial-assist PM machine with Halbach array PM arrangement strengthens the amplitude of the fundamental component of magnetic flux in the airgap regions and thereby, enhances the output torque delivery compared to the baseline machine. Furthermore, the presented solution effectively reduces voltage harmonics and the torque ripple as confirmed via a series of the Finite Element (FE)-based analysis.
