Advanced Frequency-Dependent Modeling Techniques for Bus Parasitics of WBGs-Enabled Circuits

The frequency content in emerging wide bandgap semiconductor (WBGs) based circuits is encroaching the RF domain. At these frequencies, the various parasitics of the test-stand and PCB can no longer be modeled as simple lumped elements. This paper presents methods to capture the dispersive effects of the frequency-dependence of parasitics contained in WBGs-based circuits. A ladder network is implemented and curve-fit to the experimentally measured impedance profile of a Double-Pulse Test board. The optimized network is then instantiated into a circuit simulation of the DPT and a comparison of switching prediction between this ladder network and a simple RL approximation is provided along with empirical measurements. This paper thus shows that, by using a more complex parasitics model that accounts for the frequency dependence of a circuit board, greatly improved transient agreement can be obtained.
