Beating Frequency Analysis for Feedforward-Controlled Converters in DC Microgrids

This paper analyzes the beating effect phenomena in feedforward-controlled converters. Such an effect is of pivotal importance in applications where multiple power converters are interconnected, and can cause undesired voltage and current oscillations. The study examines the beating effect on a DC microgrid composed by the cascaded connection of two buck converters, providing an analytical derivation of the amplitudes of the oscillations. The excellent accuracy of the theoretical model is verified with PSIM simulations.This analysis focuses on a specific DC microgrid; however, the proposed analytical methodologies can be applied to various topologies, leading to a deeper understanding of the beating phenomena.
