MATLAB GUI Based Simulation and Optimization Tool for a Generic N-port MAB Converter

This paper introduces a MATLAB graphical user interface (GUI)-based control optimization and circuit simulation toolbox for a generic and reconfigurable n-port multi-activebridge (MAB) converter. The designed simulator provides the key bridge voltage, current waveforms, their RMS and peak values, and the loss distribution among the bridges as simulation outputs under a user chosen steady state operating condition, making it more convenient to use over commercial simulation software. Furthermore, for a given converter parameter set at any operating condition, the control optimizer program outputs the optimal MAB control variable set (i.e., frequency, full-bridge phase/duty) targeting user preferred design objective such as minimized conduction loss, switching loss or total switching network loss. Importantly, the toolbox can flexibly accept the switching device parameters as well as the converter non-idealities as inputs and accordingly incorporate their effects into the simulation as well as optimization process, providing a high confident and practical optimization result that maximizes the system performance.
