Load Test Method for High-Frequency Transformers Using Two Power Supplies and a Capacitor

This paper proposes a load test method using two small-capacity power supplies and a capacitor for high-frequency transformers at 500 kHz. In this method, no large-capacity power supply and load are required. By using the capacitor so that the series resonance with leakage inductances of the test transformer, the apparent power for the power supply can be reduced even the operating frequency is high. In addition, the proposed method can be effective to high-frequency transformers where its turn ratio is not 1:1. Experimental results show the apparent power of the power supply provides the voltage drop due to the leakage inductance is reduced by 89% compared to that without the capacitor.
