High power dense 1-ph 3-port converter for on-board EV charging application

The interest in the research and development of multiport converters integrating the AC grid with various renewable energy systems like Photovoltaic (PV) systems, energy storage systems and Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries have been increasing since the last two decades. These applications demand for an efficient single power-electronic interface, integrating both DC and AC source(s) and load(s). The main challenge comes in the integration of AC port with reduced power processing stages to make it more efficient and reliable, with reduced control complexity. This article proposes a partially- isolated three-port converter with single-stage power conversion, where a DC source can supply both AC and DC loads, reducing the total number of switches and increasing the power density of the systems. The operation of the proposed converter is verified with simulation study and experimental results.
