Design and Modeling of Shape Memory Alloy Spring Actuated Microsystem

All the materials in globe have its own resistivity property in general. This resistive property is considered for its electrical conduction behaviour. Most commonly, the physical parameters like temperature, pressure, strain, and strength of a material may vary whenever a material gets electricity in it. Shape Memory Alloys also gets those parameters change while experiencing electricity. Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) are widely used in many sectors, like industrial, medical and robotics for its flexibility with electrical resistance, light weight and phase reformation behaviour in thermal environment. NiTinol is one of the Shape Memory Alloy which is frequently used for commercial applications. SMA has shape change due to the temperature change. It has three stages of shapes (cooled shape, heated shape, and natural shape) in its thermal environment. In this paper these shape change due to the electrically created thermal environment is modelled and temperature variation may analysed using COMSOL.A design of Microsystem based on SMA spring is the main focus for this research work. Mechanical behaviour is also modelled for SMA spring under electrically created thermal environment. Mainly nonlinear actuation of a SMA is concentrated.
