EMMAR: Exploration of Malaysian Traditional Musical Instrument with Augmented Reality

This paper aims to enhance visitor engagement at the Malaysian Musical Museum (Muzium Muzik Malaysia) by developing an augmented reality (AR) mobile application, EMMAR, using the Unity game engine. The application uses a booklet to provide interactive educational experiences with traditional Malaysian musical instruments, which are typically off-limits for touching. The goal is to improve visitor participation and appreciation of the museum's cultural heritage, leveraging AR technology to create dynamic, hands-on interactions. The study employs the ADDIE research methodology, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. It includes a sample of 80 respondents, primarily museum visitors and university students, targeting younger and urban participants. Key findings reveal that university students show higher adaptability to augmented reality, while general museum visitors remain neutral towards the use of advanced technology in museum exhibitions.
