Lightweight semi-open magnetic shielding room based on finite element method

Lightweight magnetic shielding room (MSR) requires less material, is lighter, more mobile and more cost effective. It will provide a viable solution for portable mobile biomagnetic measurement equipments. In this paper, a semi-open lightweight MSR is proposed based on the finite element method. It uses 30% less permalloy compared to conventional magnetic shielding chambers. We analysed the internal residual magnetism distribution of MSRs under different hole distribution methods through finite element simulation, through which we optimized the structure of MSRs and machined and designed the semi-open MSR. The design has a shielding factor of 26 at 0.1 Hz magnetic field, which is close to the shielding factor of a conventional closed MSR, and provides better ventilation and lighting performance.
