The Role of Information and Communication Technology in Promoting Equity in South African Higher Education: A Systematic Review

In South Africa, the quest for equity in higher education is a critical national priority to redress historical imbalances and ensure inclusive development. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has emerged as a transformative tool in this endeavor, offering innovative solutions to bridge gaps in access, quality, and inclusivity. The research findings showed that ICT has been employed in various ways that have significantly helped promote equity in higher education. This study makes a significant contribution by systematically reviewing the role of ICT in promoting equity in South African higher education. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the current landscape, identifies critical areas of impact and challenges, and offers practical recommendations to enhance the integration of ICT to promote equity in higher education.
