Analysing Power Converter Losses with PLECS: A Case Study of Current Control Strategies for Induction Motor Applications

Losses in power electronic converters are inevitable when using power semiconductors as switches. Accurately measuring these losses is crucial for properly distinguishing new control approaches. However, many proposed strategies lack comprehensive studies on the switching and conduction losses of power semiconductors. Hence, this paper introduces a methodology to quantify power losses using PLECS simulation software. The aim is to provide a more in-depth analysis of any new control strategy applied to power electronic converters and electric motor drives.
