Real Time Performance Assessment of Wind Turbine Model Under Ferro Resonance Conditions

In this research, the author purposed performance analysis of different wind turbine models—namely, Doubly-Fed Induction Generators (DFIG), Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSG), Squirrel Cage Induction Generators (SCIG), and Wound Rotor Induction Generators (WRIG), under ferroresonance phenomena of energization and de-energization by using Real-Time Digital Simulation (RTDS). The simulation result shows that the highest overvoltage is getting from SCIG under energization scenario. Similarly, the highest overvoltage is getting from PMSG under de-energization scenario. In contrast, DFIG and WRIG exhibit the lowest overvoltage during energization and de-energization, respectively. The study investigated the chaotic behavior of ferro-resonance phenomena for wind turbine configuration under both de-energization and energization scenarios. The results found that chaotic behavior is more pronounced in de-energization scenarios compared to energization. The study revealed that the PMSG exhibited the highest susceptibility to ferroresonance, whereas the WRIG demonstrated the lowest susceptibility. This paper presents the real time performance of different wind turbine model under ferroresonance conditions and contribute its significant role in wind integrated power systems and provides valuable insights for developing resilient wind energy solutions for modern power grids.
