Application of a 100 Mm Linear Potentiometer for Speed Measurement in a Linear Motion System Using Stm32F410 Microcontroller: Hardware Design and Software Development

In today's industrial automation, robotics, and performance evaluation of mechanical systems, precise speed measurements are essential. For these systems to operate efficiently and accurately, it is crucial to accurately determine the speeds of linear-moving components. The linear potentiometer, which is a fundamental component of this system, precisely measures a 100 mm distance by determining the length of the piston rod. This ensures that the system's speed measurements are performed with high precision and reliability. The developed system is optimized in terms of both hardware and software, with hardware-based filters helping to reduce noise and interference, while software-based filters further validate the signal. This combination enhances the accuracy and reliability of speed measurements. The developed speed measurement system is portable and can be easily mounted thanks to the suction cups on it. With these features, the system has a wide range of applications in industrial settings and research projects. This paper examines the design and software details of the developed system and shares the results obtained through calibration and validation processes.
