Dynamic Adaptive Gain for Variable Speed Control of BLDC Motor Using PBC Applicable to Electric Vehicle

This paper introduces a control framework based on the passivity-based controller (PBC) for the Brushless DC (BLDC) motor, capable of maintaining accurate speed regu-lation with different external conditions. Through the dq-axis transformation, this research has simplified the motor dynamics to allow for the application of adaptive reference voltage laws directly and quadrature axes toward dynamic energy dissipation control. It achieves real-time gain updates which adequately compensate for load changes and disturbances while providing high performance and minimizing speed error. The BLDC motor and PBC controller model is designed and simulated in MATLAB SIMULINK, showing the capacity to maintain near-constant speed with minimal overshoot at time-varying loads. The results show the possibilities of PBC in obtaining stability and performance improvements in voltage source inverter-fed BLDC motors, which can be a solution for demanding applications in motor control. This study points out the role of PBC in achieving high-performance speed regulation, making it a valuable strategy for advanced motor control systems.
