Low-Cost Phased Array with Switchable Dual Circular Polarization Based on Subarray

In this paper, a low-cost K-band phased array antenna for satellite communication is designed. he phased array adopts a subarray sparse architecture to reduce the number of T/R components. However, for ease of subsequent processing and testing, modular requirements were proposed for the subarray topology. Furthermore, for compatibility with various satellite communication systems, phased array antennas also need to possess switchable dual circular polarization states. Furthermore, to validate the feasibility of the proposed scheme, the measurements were conducted using a 256-element K-band low-cost phased array across the entire frequency band. The results that within the scanning range of ±45°, the phased array exhibits good radiation performance and circular polarization capabilities.
