LEO-NAS Based Passive Bistatic Radar: System Concept and Performance Analysis

This paper proposes and studies a passive bistatic radar (PBR) system based on low earth orbit-navigation augmentation system (LEO-NAS). Taking advantage of higher landing power, the proposed LEO-NAS based PBR has the potential to play an important role in practical applications, compared with the traditional global navigation satellite system (GNSS) based PBR. After a short description of system concept, the selection of radiation source is discussed. Then, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance of the signal augmented LEO-NAS based PBR is analyzed. Finally, the main technical difficulties and challenges of the proposed system are presented.
