Analysis and Measurement of a Novel Rectenna Array Crossing a Loop and Dipole Antennas

This study introduces a novel rectenna array that combines a dipole antenna with a loop antenna, using a rectifying diode as the dipole and two LEDs as the loop. The simulated electromagnetic field distribution clarifies the differences between this new design and the conventional crossed dipole antenna. It also offers insights into extending wireless power transmission distance through the arraying of the rectenna, based on magnetic field distribution analysis. An experiment was conducted to illuminate the LEDs using a smartphone’s Wi-Fi tethering as the wave source, with results closely aligning with the analytical predictions. We also measured the S-parameters using a vector network analyzer (VNA) to evaluate the wireless power transmission efficiency for each rectenna element, confirming that the trends matched the analytical results.
