A Multi-Stage Matching Rectifier with Wide Input Power Range for Wireless Power Transfer

Due to the unpredictable wireless power transfer (WPT) path losses and the unknown location of RF sources, the received RF power is distributed with unknown power levels in WPT scenarios. Therefore, RF rectifiers should obtain high efficiencies within a wide input power range. This paper proposes an efficient rectifier topology with a wide input power range. The proposed rectifier topology uses the multi-stage matching method and consists of two parallel rectifier arrays to provide two different DC paths for low and high input power levels, respectively. For validation, a wide input power range rectifier has been designed, fabricated, and measured. It maintains an efficiency of over 50% at 2.52 GHz over an input range from 4 to 30.5 dBm.
