Reconfigurable Convex-Type Multi-Beam Metasurface Reflector for mmWave Application

Reconfigurable metasurface reflectors have recently been considered as the countermeasures for the coverage hole problem in millimeter wave (mmWave) communication systems. In this paper, a novel reconfigurable convex-type multi-beam metasurface reflector is proposed for obtaining a wide reflection direction range without an external direct-current (DC) supply. To obtain a wide reflection phase range, the proposed reflector includes large-via mushroom-type structure. As a result, a wide reflection direction range could be achieved by mechanically changing the aperture angle of convex-type reflector.
