Utilization of ABS Material for In-Band Full-Duplex Antenna Implementation Using 3D Printing Technology

In this paper, the use of additive manufacturing technique is highlighted for developing radio frequency (RF) and microwave devices. The potential of utilizing lightweight materials such as Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) material using a three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is focused to In-Band Full Duplex (IBFD) antenna implementation. A three-port microstrip antenna with a 180° hybrid ring coupler is employed to mitigate self-interference arising from concurrent transmission and reception on the same frequency. Copper paint is used as a coating material to cover the conductive elements of antenna. Both simulation and measurement confirm that the proposed IBFD antenna meets the design specifications and performs efficiently at the frequency of 2.4 GHz. The results shows that the realized IBFD antenna can maintain stable performance and achieve high isolation up to 47 dB, demonstrating the effectiveness of approaching technique in modern communication systems.
