Experimental Investigation of Environment Impacts on AOA-Based Indoor Localization

There have been many studies on indoor localization using a super-resolution angle-of-arrival (AOA) estimation method, such as the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm. Addressing the challenges presented by multipath propagation in practical environments, several studies have explored spatial smoothing techniques to improve AOA accuracy in a coherent environment, but algorithm tuning is still an important issue. In this study, an extensive measurement campaign confirmed the efficacy of spatial smoothing in enhancing AOA estimation. The results revealed that the environment significantly impacts localization errors, providing valuable insights into improving indoor localization accuracy, especially in practical indoor environments.
