Advanced RESTful API Testing: Leveraging Newman's Command-Line Capabilities with Postman Collections

The development of RESTful APIs as modern web services needs a testing to ensure their reliability and performance. Postman has established itself as a premier tool for API development and manual testing. However, the increasing demand for automation and continuous testing within DevOps pipelines calls for more advanced solutions. Newman, the command-line companion for Postman, addresses this need by enabling automated execution of Postman Collections. This paper explores the advanced capabilities of Newman, the command-line companion of Postman, for automated API testing. This study provides a detailed comparison between Postman and Newman, focusing specifically on their execution times. This paper explores advanced methodologies for RESTful API testing by leveraging Newman's command-line capabilities in conjunction with Postman Collections. Our findings indicate that Newman significantly reduces execution time, particularly in scenarios involving extensive data sets and multiple concurrent API calls. The analysis shows that Newman is more efficient in terms of execution time compared to Postman, with an average time of just 0.263 seconds, which is approximately 9.85% of the time needed by Postman (2.669 seconds).
