Predictive Maintenance Strategies for Knee Implants: A MATLAB-Based Approach

Regarding knee implants, as critical medical products that have a significant impact on patients’ quality of life and mobility, dependable and durable are words that every producer of such implants has to take to heart, thus making predictive maintenance mandatory. The approach presented in this article prescribes the utilization of MATLAB in developing a predict-and-control- schedule for knee implants. The method simply includes the monitoring of critical parameters like wear and tear tension and corrosion in the context of hospitals. The goal of this methodology is to create classifier models in MATLAB which can predict a variety of possible future failures or deviations from exemplary performance leading to beneficial shifts in patient wellbeing, decreased rates of emergent maintenance needs and times, and the most efficient maintenance schedules. In this regard, the study reveals how effective MATLAB can be in relating real-time data of the sensors to the predicted maintenance requirements for the improvement of the reliability of the implant, besides increasing the useful life of the knee implants.
