Feathered Precision: Leveraging EfficientNet-B2 for Cutting-Edge Bird Species Classification

Birds are essential members of ecosystems, hence proper identification of them is essential for ecological research, biodiversity monitoring, and conservation. Often time-consuming and prone to mistakes, traditional bird classification techniques Emphasizing 525 species, this work uses the EfficientNet-B2 deep learning architecture for automatic bird classification. The 7,875 images in the dataset are evenly distributed into training, testing, and validation sets with every image sized to 224x224 pixels. Using horizontal flipping, rotation, and zooming among other techniques, model generality was raised by data augmentation. Trained over 25 epochs using an Adam optimizer and cross-entropy loss function; pre-trained ImageNet weights helped to fine- Tune the EfficientNet-B2 model. The model showed to be fairly strong and efficient with an amazing 98% classification accuracy. This great accuracy highlights the possibilities of EfficientNet-B2 for useful purposes in bird conservation, hence allowing extensive population monitoring. Furthermore, emphasized in the research is the ability of deep learning models to process data from citizen science projects, so improving ecological research and conservation plans. These results provide a strong instrument for monitoring and conserving bird species, therefore supporting the more general use of deep learning in biodiversity research.
